About

The Faculty of History and Philology was established in 1967. Since 1995, the faculty of history and philology has been operating the educational specialties of History, Azerbaijani language and literature, jurisprudence, librarianship, history and additional legal teaching. The specialty of jurisprudence was subordinated to the Faculty of Economics and Law in 1998.

The departments of Azerbaijani Linguistics, Azerbaijani Literature, General History, and History of Azerbaijan operated at the Faculty.

The Faculty of Journalism was opened in 2002, and the Chair of Journalism and World Literature was established. It was merged with the chair of journalism and world literature, and in 2020 it was separated from that department and was included in the chair of museology, archival work and preservation of monuments.

In 2012, the specialization of museology, archival work and preservation of monuments was opened. Undergraduate training is carried out in the specialties of "Museology, archival work and preservation of monuments", "Philology".

Bachelor training is carried out in the additional higher education specialties "History", "Library and information activities", "Philology", "Museum, archival work and preservation of monuments", "History", "Philology" (Azerbaijani language and literature). Chairman of the Scientific Council Arif Agalarov, deputy chairman Qadir Akberov, scientific secretary Abdullay Mustafayev, its composition consists of 16 people.

Chair of Azerbaijani Linguistics

The "Azerbaijani Linguistics" department is one of the main leading specialty departments in the direction of "Teaching Azerbaijani language and literature" at the undergraduate level of higher education. The taught subjects are taught by highly qualified specialists. Various technical means and methods of modern training are used to improve the quality of teaching of subjects, to increase the efficiency of the teaching process.

In 2018, the "Azerbaijani Linguistics" department was merged with the "Azerbaijani Literature" department under the order of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" department was created. In 2024, the chair of "Azerbaijani Linguistics" and "Azerbaijani Literature" was separated again.

The faculty of the chair consists of 13 people - 2 doctors of philological sciences, professors, 8 doctors of philology, associate professors, 1 doctor of philology, associate professor, 1 doctor of philology, head teacher and 1 teacher. The department has 1 technical staff: 1 chief laboratory technician of the chair

Head of the chair

The "Language and Literature of Azerbaijan" department started operating on March 13, 1970 at the Nakhchivan branch of API. Until May 31, 1982, prof. Yavuz İbrahimkhalil oglu of Akhund was in charge. On May 31, 1982, the chair of "Azerbaijani language and literature" was separated and the chairs of "Azerbaijani literature" and "Azerbaijani linguistics" were established. In 2018, the "Azerbaijani Linguistics" department was merged with the "Azerbaijani Literature" department according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" department was created. Prof. to the chair. Gadimov Asgar Nadir oghlu was in charge until September 2021. From September 6, 2022, the chair is headed by Valiyev Elburus Ali oglu.

Chair of History of Azerbaijan

The "History" department was established under Nakhchivan State University from the first day of its establishment. This department has been called the "History of Azerbaijan" department since 1984. Currently, 11 employees are working in that department. Among them, 5 people are doctors of sciences, 4 people are professors, 2 people are associate professors, 4 people are doctors of philosophy, 2 people are teachers. The department is headed by professor Huseynov Khazar Allahverdi oghlu, Ph.D.

Chair of Azerbaijani literature

Azerbaijani literature department was established on March 13, 1970 in Nakhchivan branch of API. "Literature of Azerbaijan" department was established on May 31, 1982. In 2018, the "Azerbaijani Linguistics" department was merged with the "Azerbaijani Literature" department according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" department was created. The "Azerbaijani language and literature" department was divided into "Azerbaijani linguistics" and "Azerbaijani literature" departments by the decision of the Scientific Council of Nakhchivan State University on May 30, 2024.

The composition of the professor-teacher staff of the chair consists of 12 people - 1 professor, 7 people with a doctor of philosophy in philology, associate professor, 2 people with a doctor of philosophy in philology, a senior teacher. The department has 2 technical staffs: 1 head of the "Azerbaijani literature" booth, 1 laboratory assistant of the chair (P.S. Ahmadova, Ph.D. in philology).

From March 13, 1970, when the Azerbaijan literature department was operating in the Nakhchivan branch of the API, until May 31, 1982, the chair of "Azerbaijani language and literature" was prof. Yavuz İbrahimkhalil oglu of Akhund was in charge. From May 31, 1982 to November 1, 2007, Professor Akhundlu Yavuz İbrahimkhalil oglu was in charge, and from November 1, 2007 to September 2021, Professor Gadimov Asker Nadir oglu was in charge. and literature" department was established. From September 5, 2022 to May 30, 2024, the chair of "Azerbaijani language and literature" was headed by associate professor, doctor of philosophy in philology Valiyev Elburus Ali oglu.

Until May 30, 2024, the chair of "Azerbaijani language and literature" was headed by the chair of "Azerbaijani linguistics" and was assigned to the "Azerbaijani literature" department.

As of May 30, 2024, the position of deputy head of the "Azerbaijani literature" department was assigned to Karimli Khanali Abbasali oghlu, associate professor, doctor of philosophy in philology, on public grounds.

As of 2024, Aliyeva Nurlana Sabirgizi, assistant professor, doctor of philosophy in philology, was appointed to the chair head of the "Azerbaijani literature" department.

Journalism and literature of foreign countries

The chair of "Journalism and literature of foreign countries" is a department that prepares staff for the specialty of Journalism at the undergraduate level of higher education. The department was established in 2002 under the name of "Journalism and World Literature" department. Since 2018 it has been playing an important role in the training of highly educated journalist specialists in the region under the name of "Journalism and librarianship" department, and since September 2020 "Journalism and literature of foreign countries" department. In 2001-2006, Assoc. I. Jafarov, in 2006-2013 Assoc. S. Sura and since 2013, Ph.D. in philology, associate professor Shahla Shiraliyeva.

Museum studies, archival work and librarianship

Nakhchivan The chair of "Museology, archival work and librarianship" was established in 2012 at Nakhchivan State University. Currently, the chair has 11 employees. Among them, 1 person is a doctor of sciences, 5 people are a doctor of philosophy, 1 person is an honored teacher of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 2 are teachers and 1 is a laboratory assistant. Aliyev Mammad Hasan oglu, doctor of philosophy in history, has been appointed head of the chair on public grounds since September 2012.  Since 2015, he was appointed full-time head of the chair. He is currently vacant.

General History

The Chair of History was formed on the basis of the history department established in 1967.

The Chair of "General History" was organized on the basis of the Rector's Order No. 160 dated September 10, 1992.

The composition of the teaching staff of the "General history" department consists of 8 people - 5 people are doctors of philosophy in history, associate professors, 1 person is a doctor of philosophy in history, teacher, 2 people are teachers. The department has 1 technical staff: the laboratory assistant of the chair.

Department management

The chair of history was formed on the basis of the chair of history created in 1967-. The history department was headed by associate professor Ali Aliyev, who worked as director from 1967 to 1970. In the years 1970-1973, he headed the chair, which was formed as the chair of history.

The Chair of History was divided into the Chairs of History of Azerbaijan and General History by the Rector's order dated September 10, 1992. From December 18, 1997 to December 18, 1997, associate professor Hamza Jafarov, and from December 18, 1997 to May 2008, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Ismayil Zeynalov were in charge. From 2008 to June 2018, associate professor Kangarli Ilgar Ismayil oglu headed the chair.

From June 2018 to November 27, 2023, associate professor Jabbarli Alekbar Hasan oglu, PhD in history, headed the chair.

From November 27, 2023, associate professor Bagirov Rasul Bashirali's son heads the chair.
