The Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​at Nakhchivan State University has been operating independently since 2020. The history of this faculty, whose previous name was "Faculty of International Relations and Foreign Languages", is multifaceted. So, initially, in the academic year 1998-1999, under the Faculty of History and Philology, staff training was started for English and French language specialties, German language in the 2000-2001 academic year, Russian language in the 2001-2002 academic year, and Arabic language in the 2003-2004 academic year. Since 2006, it has been separated from the Faculty of History and Philology and continued its activities as the Faculty of Foreign Languages. In the 2007-2008 academic year, a new specialty, Persian language, was started in the faculty. From 2008 to 2020, it worked as the Faculty of International Relations and Foreign Languages.

There are 4 departments operating under the Faculty of Foreign Languages: "English Language and Translation", "English Language and Methodology", "Romano-Germanic Languages", "Russian and Oriental Languages". The number of faculty members is 57. 11 of them are PhDs in philology, associate professors, 15 are senior teachers, and 31 are teachers. The faculty offers bachelor's training in the fields of Foreign language teaching: (English language), (French language), (German language), (Russian language) and Translation: (English-Azerbaijani languages), (Arabic-Azerbaijani languages), (Persian-Azerbaijani languages).

The faculty has a material and technical base that meets modern requirements. There is a meeting hall with 80 seats, an auditorium with 80 seats, an auditorium with an electronic chair, a computer room equipped with the most modern equipment, 2 language booths and auditoriums equipped with electronic boards. Currently, 9 centers are operating in the Faculty of Foreign Languages: "Educational-methodical center", "Synchronous translation center", "French language", "English language", "German language", "Russian language", "Arabic language", "Persian language" centers and "Translation center". Translations are carried out in 6 relevant languages ​​at the translation center. Extracurricular exercises, discussions, and events are held with students in the language centers listed above. Language centers are equipped with artistic works, scientific achievements of professors and teaching staff, and teaching materials, which students can use whenever they want. Mainly, works of fiction and translation related to English and American literature are very useful for students' extracurricular activities.

Chair of European languages

Chair of "Russian and foreign languages" at Nakhchivan State University from September 16, 1973 by order No. 224, then from May 25, 1995 by order No. 132, it was divided into "Western European and Eastern languages" and "Russian language" departments due to the increase in teaching hours of other foreign languages, then on September 1, 2003, it was re-divided into "European languages" and "Oriental languages" department, and on 11.04.2009 it was re-divided and named "English language" and "Romano-Germanic languages" department. Currently, the chair is named the "European Languages" department.

Currently, staff training in 2 specialties is being conducted in the "European Languages" department - French language teaching and German language teaching.

Chair of English language and methodology

At the end of the 2014/2015 academic year (on 13.07.2015), taking into account the excessive teaching load in the "English language" department, the "English language and translation" and "English language and methodology" departments were established in the mentioned department base. Currently, 18 professors and teachers are working in that department. 3 of them are PhDs in philology. 4 of them are senior teachers, 10 are teachers, and 1 is senior laboratory assistant. The head of the chair is the daughter of Ismailli Turkan Mehraj, doctor of philosophy in philology.

Chair of English and Translation

The English language department was organized in 1998, and since 2015, it has been operating as "English language and translation" and "English language and methodology" departments based on specialization.

Currently, the "English language and translation" department is headed by Ph.D. in philology, associate professor I.M. Mammadova.

Chair of Oriental Languages

Currently, the chair called the "Russian and Oriental Languages" chair of Nakhchivan State University was incorporated as the Nakhchivan branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute of the university on April 6, 1970 by order No. 54, "Russian and foreign languages" by order No. 224 on September 16, 1973, and "Russian and foreign languages" on May 25, 1995. With order No. 132, the chair was renamed "Russian language" due to the increase in teaching hours of other foreign languages, and with order No. 34 dated March 1, 2004, it was renamed "Russian language and literature" in connection with the opening of the specialty "Russian language and literature teacher". The specialty "Teacher of Russian language and literature" was opened at NSU. In connection with the transition to the new education system from the 2009-2010 academic year, the specialty "Russian language and literature teacher" was changed to "Russian language teaching". "Literature", "Oriental Languages and Literature" departments were merged and named "Russian and Oriental Languages" department. Currently it is called "Oriental Languages" department.

Currently staff training in 3 specialties is being conducted in the "Oriental Languages" department.
