Physics-mathematics faculty is one of the important faculties of the education system of Nakhchivan State University, which prepares qualified personnel for the fields of mathematics, informatics and physics. The faculty was established in 1971.
Currently, the faculty trains highly educated specialists in the fields of "Teaching Mathematics", "Teaching Mathematics and Informatics", "Teaching Physics", "Mathematics" and "Physics". In 1973-1975, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor Ali Maharramov, in 1975-1978, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics Sciences, Associate Professor Gadir Gurbanov, in 1978-1983, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics Sciences, Associate Professor Yashar Akbarov, in 1983-1988, Physics and Mathematics candidate of sciences, associate professor Huseyn Mammadov, in 1988-1992, candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor Akif Aliyev, in 1992-1997, doctor of physics and mathematics, professor Zohrab Valiyev, in 1997-2000, doctor of physics and mathematics, associate professor Sadiq Valiyev, in 2000-2009 Candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Farman Gocayev, in 2009-2015, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Tofig Najafov was in charge, in 2015-2022, doctor of philosophy in pedagogy, associate professor Orkhan Jafarov was in charge of the faculty. In 2022-2025, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics, associate professor Maftun Ismayilov headed the faculty. Since 2025, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics, Associate Professor Vugar Salmanov has been the head of the faculty.
Before the establishment of the faculty - in the years 1967-1971, the Nakhchivan Pedagogical Institute, a branch of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute, trained specialists in the field of mathematics.
