Azerbaijani literature department was established on March 13, 1970 in Nakhchivan branch of API. "Literature of Azerbaijan" department was established on May 31, 1982. In 2018, the "Azerbaijani Linguistics" department was merged with the "Azerbaijani Literature" department according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" department was created. The "Azerbaijani language and literature" department was divided into "Azerbaijani linguistics" and "Azerbaijani literature" departments by the decision of the Scientific Council of Nakhchivan State University on May 30, 2024.
The composition of the professor-teacher staff of the chair consists of 12 people - 1 professor, 7 people with a doctor of philosophy in philology, associate professor, 2 people with a doctor of philosophy in philology, a senior teacher.
