The Chair of International Relations of Nakhchivan State University was established in 1992. The Chair of International Relations was reconstructed in accordance with European standards within the framework of the Tempus Project in 1999-2001. Thus, in 1999, within the framework of the "Tempus" program of the Council of Europe, the project "Establishment of the Chair of International Relations at Nakhchivan State University" prepared by the rector, academician Isa Habibbeyli, was accepted in the European Commission's inter-university competition. At the same time, the management and employees of Nakhchivan State University learned work experience from European universities based on the project. In addition, the Chair of International Relations at Nakhchivan State University was reorganized and equipped with modern equipment based on the project. International relations of Nakhchivan State University have been developing rapidly since the day it started its activities. During this period, relations with many advanced education and science centers of foreign countries were established and cooperation was started.

The main activities of the International Relations Chair of Nakhchivan State University (NDU) include the development of international cooperation of the university, membership of well-known inter-university networks and organizations, as well as establishment of new academic partnership relations and solving issues arising from the internationalization policy of NDU. At the same time, special attention is paid to cooperation with diplomatic missions, international and local organizations operating in the country. The history of international cooperation of NSU is based on many years of traditions and historical experience, and the development of international relations and the establishment of new partnerships are considered a priority issue. In accordance with the internationalization policy of NSU, the international relations department operates in the direction of further development of international cooperation in the main direction reflected in this policy. Currently, NSU has cooperation relations with dozens of universities in various fields in several countries of the world. Within the framework of these collaborations, the exchange of students and employees, the preparation of joint scientific projects, joint programs, courses and curricula are carried out.

Nakhchivan State University has cooperative relations with the universities of the United States of America, England, France, the Republic of Turkey, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Hungary, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of South Korea, the People's Republic of China, Austria and other countries.

The activities of the International Relations Chair of Nakhchivan State University include the following.

1. Holding international and diplomatic level meetings

2. Implementation of student-teacher mobility within Erasmus, Erasmus+, Erasmus+Mundus and Mevlana programs

3. Management of international projects

4. Signing agreements in the field of international cooperation with leading universities of the world
